Riding with Mans best friend

It’s winter now, and like a lot of us on the days that we can’t ride, I spend them planning and dreaming of my next adventures once the snow melts. My little buddy Dozer is often a limiting factor on taking longer trips. Not only do I have to deal with the expense of boarding him, but many of the places I go I can’t help but thinking how much he would love it.

Recently I spent numerous hours looking into modes of transport to bring Dozer along on my adventures. Sidecars seem to be a logical choice, but they’re expensive and they change the way the bike handles. Although, having three wheels in soft sand may be a blessing. I have recently discovered a few companies that offer single wheel trailers that connect through the rear axle of your motorcycle, the claims are that it does not affect the way the motorcycle handles and the trailer tracks along with the bike. Then appear to be much more secure then some of those trailer hitched, two wheeled trailers that often sway at highway speed’s.

They are not much cheaper than a sidecar, however detach within a few minutes. Several of them do not seem to specifically have a connection built for a 1200 BMW, but several smaller bikes they do. I have wrote to a few of them requesting information, and will report back what they say, after all there’s a large portion of us that ride bigger adventure bikes.

Stay tune for a future post with links to those companies and what I think the pros and cons of each are after reviewing at least on paper.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you travel with a medium to large size dog that doesn’t fit in a tiny backpack or tail case.
